Faith in the Daily Grind
Your Money Assessment
"The brother of humble circumstances should boast in his exaltation, 10 but the one who is rich should boast in his humiliation because he will pass away like a flower of the field. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will wither away while pursuing his activities."
James 1:9-11 (HCSB)
1. God has something to teach you when MONEY IS TIGHT.
"The Lord brings poverty and gives wealth; He humbles and He exalts."
1 Samuel 2:7 (HCSB)
A. Be thankful when you are financially strapped.
"The brother of humble circumstances should boast in his exaltation..."
James 1:9 (HCSB)
B. Choose to be thankful for what you have.
"But godliness with contentment is a great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with these. 9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains." 1 Timothy 6:6-10 (HCSB)
C. Utilize these moments to trust God instead of yourself.
"For in it God's righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith." Romans 1:17 (HCSB)
2. We are not OWNERS of our RESOURCES. We are MANAGERS of ALL God gives to us.
A. Watch out for self-sufficiency.
"Be careful that you don't forget the Lord your God by failing to keep His command - the ordinances and statutes - I am giving you today. 12 When you eat and are full, and build beautiful houses to live in, 13 and your herds and flocks grow large, and your silver and gold multiply, and everything else you have increases, 14 be careful that your heart doesn't become proud and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery." Deuteronomy 8:11-14 (HCSB)
B. Watch out for self-centeredness.
"The thief must no longer steal. Instead, he must do honest work with his own hands, so that he has something to share with anyone in need."
Ephesians 4:28 (HCSB)
